The present financial limits under the rules of intestacy have not been reviewed or adjusted for some time. Elsewhere on the site there are links to what the present rules and limits are.

The Law Commission has now reported and made recommendations that the limits be increased and certain other technical changes. The limit under the Administration of Small Estates Act certainly needs to be increased as it has not changed for nearly 30 years!

However this does not mean that the law has now changed. That will take parliamentary time so it could be anything up to two years before Parliament passes the new law and it is unlikely to be retrospective.
